What Is An American What Does American Mean? Websters Dictionary defines American as or its inhabitants. But is that all America and an American truly is? Is a person American simply because of geography? According to Identities, America is a confluence of cultures. Americans are people whose lives depict men and women who are trying to be as successful and robust as possible, this quest is symbolic to citizens of many other countries. This is why America illustrates the Statue of Liberty, a structure that symbolizes freedom throughout the world. America is composed not only of these peoples, but the cultures and the ways of life of these people. The Statue of Liberty symbolizes a fearless and powerful figure. Steinbeck agrees that Americans are fearless when he writes, Americans seem to live and breathe and function by paradox. Americans are fearless and risk taking, spending time and money doing things like skydiving, bungijumping, and other extreme sports. Ignoring in most cases the risk factors involved in such activities, believing that nothing is going to go wrong, that it will occur perfectly and flawlessly. This is a trait that many Americans have the refuse to believe that they are in danger. Most Americans believe that even though the limb they are on is weak, its strong enough for their safety needs. Americans daily routines are can also be described as fearless. Case in point for many is the commute to and from work. Most people speed and drive aggressively because they always are in a hurry. Americans have the idea of being perfect drives, for instance, and never making mistakes. The Statue of Liberty can also be described as fearless. The Statue of Liberty is what most people think of when asked what symbolizes America. First, the Statue of Liberty is a massive structure. Second, it is located on the edge of the ocean, able to endure all the elements the weather can throw at it. Third, it has one hand raised in a charismatic fashion, symbolizing fearlessness and powerfullness. Steinbeck writes no one can define the American Way of Life or point to any person or group who lives in it, but it is real nevertheless. The way an American lives their life differs from person to person. Two Americans from the same country, living on the same street, have different ways of practicing their religions, celebrating holidays, and pursuing their culture in general. Americans can act freely, just as the Statue of Liberty depicts freedom to Americans. The Statue of Liberty is a statue of freedom, giving Americans the right to live and practice their culture however they want. There is no such thing as a true American identity. According to the essay Identities, Identity has always been a difficult question nagging the collective American mind. No two Americans are the same, no two live in the same manner. One person cannot tell another how to live ones life; one person cannot define him/herself as living the American way of life. This is because the Statue of Liberty symb olizes to people all over that America is the land of the free. Americans are free to make their decisions about what it is to be an American and how one lives. According to Identities Americans have argued and wondered about who they are. The Statue of Liberty is a woman who works to escape the chains of tyranny. An American is also a hard worker, and many look to the Stature as a role model. A Look Into Alzheimers Disease Essays - Cognitive Disorders A look into Alzheimer's Disease The reason that I chose Alzheimer's Disease as the disease that I will report on is because I felt that it is very interesting and common within people over the age of sixty. I believed that I if I need a great deal about this disease, I would understand more about why so many people have become devastated by it. A good friend of my Grandfather's also had the disease but he has passed away. I do know however, that as soon as it was understood that he had the disease, he had to begin to change the way his life worked significantly. For one, he really couldn't go outside alone and he couldn't do much without his wife by his side. He had to stay home most of the time dreaming about imaginary things and repeating stories over and over again. His memory gradually receded and he began to lose control of bodily functions such as his ability to feed himself or to communicate with others. After seven years of painful suffering, he died. The symptoms of Alzheimer's disease are rather easy to distinguish and classify. Patients of the disease lose much of the information that they have recently learned and cannot learn anything new. They begin to constantly misplace objects, often repeat themselves, and usually become confused in simple situations. When in relatively simplex places patients may become lost or even forget where they are. Psychologically however, patients begin to become depressed most of the time and be anxious or confused. Some become restless and can barely ever sleep. The cause of the disease, although not completely proven, is strictly genetics. It is passed down from generation to generation and that is one reason why it is so common among older people. Four percent of persons 65 to 74 years old are affected; ten percent of those 75 to 84 years, and twenty percent of those 85 years or older! It is however, remarkably rare among younger and middle aged people. The treatments and medications for Alzheimer's Disease are rare. The only legal medication in the United States is Tacrine, a drug that modifies the course on which Alzheimer's runs to make the patient's life last a little longer. Treatments of this disease are also very simple. Ways to keep patients on track and not too depressed about their state of being is to keep them feeling as though everything is normal and to make sure that they do everything like routine. At first, patients can be kept at home for a few years, but after many years and gradual loss of ability to control themselves, they must be taken to a nursing home where they will spend the remainder of their lives. Certain health agencies and networks that help infected people and their families exist. Although this doesn't guarantee that you will be excluded for the disease, your chances are much slimmer. My own personal plan to reduce my risks for this fatal disease is to stay healthy and to maintain a nutritious diet with plenty of exercise. If it came to be that I was infected with Alzheimer's, I would start setting guidelines for myself and my family on how to take care of me. I would start by involving them in my daily routine schedules of staying healthy such as taking a walk outside or trying to learn new things. I would make sure that my family took the best care possible of me so that I could live my life to the fullest.

The use of rules and approaches in statutory interpretation is necessary because of the following reasons: more often than not, words have more than one meaning; errors of omission or commission may have been committed during the drafting if the statute; words can prove to be imperfect means of communication; and, society may experience new developments that may render some words in the statute out-of-date since they can no longer cover contemporary situations.2 Rules and approaches to statutory interpretations have been developed by the judges; the Interpretation Act of 1978 provides basic definitions which are necessary during statutory interpretations.3 As a matter of fact, the main function of the courts is to interpret the Acts of Parliament; they have the role of attempting to establish the Parliament’s intention in passing of a particular Act and make a decision based on that intention. However, there is a view among legal scholars and practitioners that the rules and approaches that apply to statutory interpretation give too much latitude to the courts, and there seem to be no underpinning principles.4 It is in the light of this that this paper will focus on the rules and approaches that apply to statutory interpretation and discuss the validity of this view. In addition, it will consider the influence of the European Law in regard to this topic. As has been noted, the courts use rules and approaches in interpreting statutes. Conventionally, the judge will perform the following tasks during statutory interpretations: consider the legislative intent of the statute, objective meaning of the appropriate text, the traditional canons of the statutory interpretation, and the general purposes and policies behind the legislation among others.5 Based on those considerations, the court may determine how the statute could be interpreted to mean.6 However, the court may also determine that there is no sufficient reason to prefer one way of interpretation over the other. This is one of the reasons that make some legal scholars and practitioners to have the view that the rules and Approaches that apply to statutory interpretation give too much latitude to the courts.7 They argue that even though it is assumed that diligent application of these rules and approaches will enable the courts to be persuaded on which interpretation is legally preferable; in some cases the courts encounter frustrations while attempting to find the legally preferable interpretation of statutes. It emphasizes that if we do not take action in our children's wrong doings we will hurt them in the longer run. Children need discipline in their lives. It is their only way of learning the difference between right and wrong. As parents, it is our duty to mold our children in the right direction. The rewards of implementing discipline are endless, for knowing that they will make the right decision even when you are not there is comforting, and it pleases you. Discipline is fair, and open disciplinary procedures are essential to maintain harmony. Therefore, discipline is an important action taken to encourage compliance with organizational standards and regulations; whether in the home or at the work place. A popular and effective disciplinary rule used today by many managers is known as the "Hot Stove Rule of Discipline." This rule can be defined as the concept that disciplinary action should have the same characteristics as the penalty a person receives from touching a hot stove; that is, the discipline should be immediate, consistent, and impersonal (Gardner 1). Before any disciplinary action can be implemented, a manager must first give advanced warning. Employees must be informed clearly that certain actions will result in disciplinary actions. This is a very important step. It is not the employee's fault if he is not informed of the company's rules, ethics and standards. Extradition and Deportation Views of Bosnia and Herzegovina

Bosnia-Herzegovina, formally known as Yugoslavia, has been addressing many pressing issues; however, extradition and deportation has been gaining large amounts of attention from Bosnia-Herzegovina’s government. Bosnia-Herzegovina’s government consists of a tripartite presidency which is divided mainly between Croatian, Serb, and Bosnian political parties. During World War II, the Kingdom of Yugoslavia resisted the Axis powers and were overrun. The attacking axis forces: Germany, Italy, Hungary, Bulgaria, and related regimes, Croatia and Serbia partitioned off the land. Soon after the partitioning, a civil war sprang up between the Yugoslav Partisans and the royalist Chetnik Movement. Not only did this war take place, but there was also genocide committed against the local Serbs, Jews and Roma while Chetniks began to chase the Bosniak and Croat population to perform an ethnic cleansing. With much support given by the U. S. S. R and the United States of America, the Yugoslav Partisans gained more and more power over the opposing forces. Italy and all of the other commanding countries gave up their hold on the partioned land to Germany. After the city of Berlin was captured by allied forces, Germany surrendered and the once axis controlled countries were released to the allied forces. The Federal People’s Republic of Yugoslavia assumed control after World War II. â€Å"This, what you are doing, is not good. This is the path that you want to take Bosnia and Herzegovina on, the same highway of hell and death that Slovenia and Croatia went on. Don't think that you won't take Bosnia and Herzegovina into hell, and the Muslim people maybe into extinction. Because the Muslim people cannot defend themselves if there is war here. Radovan Karadzic, leader of the Serb Democratic Party, said this after hearing talks of Bosnia-Herzegovina separating and gaining its’ independence from Yugoslavia. From 1991-1992, ethnic lines were being honed in for the country of Bosnia-Herzegovina. Bosniak factions had high tension between them and the two smaller factions, Serbs and Croats. This situation caused the parliament of Bosnia-Herzegovina to become fragmented and worthless. Croatia and Yugoslavia signed an armistice while being supervised by the United Nations. The Serb and Croat powers continued to negotiate over the partitioning of Bosnia-Herzegovina. While talks to keep Bosnia a part of Yugoslavia or totally succeeding continued, no agreement was reached. When the referendum had taken place to decide Bosnia-Herzegovina’s independence, an estimated 64-67% to 98% of the votes were for independence. Shortly after Bosnia-Herzegovina gained its’ independence the Bosnian War began. Post the 1992-1995 Bosnian War, there were many Islamic fighters left in Bosnia-Herzegovina which sided with Bosnians during the war. After nearly 15 years of trouble from these old allies, a harsh policy was unanimously accepted by both the Bosniaks, Bosnian Muslim politicians, and the population of Bosnia-Herzegovina. The population of Islamic fighters have become notorious for the fact that much crime and influence of the young Muslim people. A movement known as the Wahhabi movement, run by a fundamentalist group of Islam prevalent in Saudi Arabia, is continuing to grow more and more from help by these Islamic fighters. The Bosnian Islamic Community banned the Wahhabi movement in 1993 which took place during the war when moderate Muslims were being recruited by foreign fighters for their cause. Since the U. S. – led invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan, Bosnia has seen a wide spread popularity in the Wahhabi movement. The Bosnian Islamic Community has done nothing since the ban in 1993; although, when the Wahhabis began attempting to take control of the Islamic Community’s administrative units and Mosques, the Muslim leaders were made to react. Mustafa Ceric, the grand mufti of Bosnia, began to take a message on a journey to many capitals of the world. This message entailed that the main leaders and financiers of the Bosnian Wahhabi movement were housed in Western Europe, mainly Austria. Ceric decried that action be taken by world leaders to insure that the radical Islamic groups did not populate Bosnia. This matter has been put off for some time because any attempt against this movement may sacrifice votes for politicians from the Bosniak nationalist vote. In 2006, pressure was put on the Bosnian government in which a commission was formed to review how nearly 1,500 people gained Bosnian citizenship, almost all fighters from different Muslim countries. Deportations were ordered for commencement shortly after. â€Å"Anyone should see that you sell this country piece by piece, Muslim by Muslim; you betray everything that can be betrayed †¦And be aware that Allah has the power and that you will face Him and answer for the betrayal of Islam and Muslims. † After the deportations were nearly in full-swing, a man only identified as Hattab27 said the aforementioned quote in a posted threat on you tube against Sulejman Tihic, Haris Silajdzic, and Grand Mufti. This threat entailed that if extradition and deportation were made against these brothers of the country, that a video would be released to destroy the three presidents politically. Due to the possibility of ill treatment of the deportees in their home country they could not be deported. Only two people were deported to their home countries, both last year. Bosnia-Herzegovina feels that strict deportation and extradition laws should be put in effect immediately. These laws would call for the immediate extradition of a person who has committed or who has been associated with a crime. If the said person cannot be extradited for being associated with a crime, then immediate deportation should take place. These crimes would be interpreted by the International Criminal Courts, if this court system cannot perform these duties for what ever reason then a new sub-committee should be erected to act upon these hearings. This court would be United Nations funded and any country that wishes to devote money to this cause is welcome. Although crimes vary from country to country, there should be a summit and amendment created. The amendment would compile a list of laws and regulations for extradition and deportation and the summits will be used to educate countries about the aforementioned amendment. If a country wishes to abide by the amendment then the laws and regulations will take effect immediately.
